Incredibly Quick Virtual Resources: More of Stoney’s Snippets!

A couple of weeks ago, we announced a new ABPC online feature — Stoney’s Snippets and Snaps!

Each snippet features Assistant Director Stoney Beavers sharing a useful teaching or leadership resource — or interesting tidbit from his latest foray into professional learning. There’s a slide and there’s Stoney, and it’s all done in less than 60 seconds.

Our first post included a selection of early Snippets. As I said then, it’s amazing what you can think up while social distancing. Especially if you’re Stoney!

Without further ado, here’s what you might have missed since. You can find the complete collection at the A+ Education Partnership YouTube channel.

More Tips from Stoney Beavers

Snippet: Crash Course

Over nearly a decade, authors and educational video producers John Green (The Fault in Our Stars) and brother Hank Green have created an amazing YouTube university of completely free video courses and features (and 10.8M subscribers!). Stoney highlights this quirky and engaging resource here.

Snippet: Linoit (aka, Lino)

Like some other resources that have been around awhile, a revisit to the Lino app (with our new perspectives on virtual learning in tow) can be revelatory. The Linoit platform takes the concept of a corkboard with pinnable images and objects and adds a super sticky note tool. Stoney’s slide shows the visual teaser from the Lino homepage. Getting ideas yet?!

Snippet: Visual Learning for Literacy

Stoney highlights the book by Nancy Frey and Doug Fisher with contributions from John Hattie. He and I have been exploring this game-changing text in a virtual book study with Nancy and Doug (via the Fisher and Frey Book Club) and it’s been a terrific opportunity to dig deep into what research-based strategies work best in K-12 literacy instruction. Stoney’s talent for summation in this 60-second snippet will have you wanting to look up this book and this book study archive!

Want to participate in a Fisher and Frey Book Club series?

A fresh Book Club event is starting May 18-29, featuring the text The Teacher Credibility and Collective Efficacy Playbook, by Fisher, Frey and Dominique Smith. Participants will explore (with the very lively authors) the proposition that “Highly credible teachers can’t reach their full potential without engagement in a collective of other teachers.”
