When students, parents, educators, and policymakers have the right information to make decisions, students excel. Now that Alabama has created its longitudinal data system, we must build it into an effective tool to support academic success, broaden workforce opportunities, and drive systemic change.

It is critical that students have access to high-quality learning opportunities outside of the traditional school day to accelerate and support their learning.

Alabama is on a journey to make school funding more adequate and student-centered. For 30 years, Alabama schools were funded based on how many students attended, instead of what those students needed. The RAISE Act of 2025 updated the old formula by adding more money for students who need it most.

Math is a critical area of subject knowledge for success during school and beyond. It’s time for a comprehensive state strategy to improve math achievement for all students.

Reading is the foundation of all learning, and it is foundational to lifelong success. We must double down on recent success through the Alabama Literacy Act to improve literacy achievement for all students.

High-impact principals are responsible for a wide range of factors that influence student achievement. Alabama should continue investing in ways to recruit, develop, and retain high-impact principals in order to create great schools for all kids.

High-quality instructional materials make a big difference for kids. What is chosen matters. Teachers and school leaders must also learn how to implement these materials through curriculum-based professional development.

Every child deserves a great school, but this remains out of reach for too many students. High-quality public charter schools provide additional opportunities to serve the needs of these students and families.

High-Quality Pre-K prepares students for lifelong success. Students who attend are more likely to be proficient in reading and math, graduate high school, and earn more in their careers after high school.

Federal funding impacts Alabama schools and students. It’s our mission to keep you informed about changes to those funding streams that support Title I, summer and afterschool programs, Special Education, and other important programs.

Advanced Placement (AP) courses increase a student's success in college, career, and life. It is critical that these courses are accessible to all students who are interested in taking them, regardless of circumstance.
