New Executive Director of ASRA Comments on Alabama Pre-K Support

Allison de la Torre, who recently began serving as the executive director for the Alabama School Readiness Alliance, said she is “blown away” by the widespread support for voluntary pre-kindergarten in Alabama.

“We are truly lucky to have a deep reservoir of leaders inside and outside of government who are willing to tackle the hard work and collaboration needed to expand voluntary pre-k to all of Alabama’s children,” said Ms. de la Torre.

ASRA is a joint effort of Alabama Giving, Alabama Partnership for Children, A+ Education Partnership, Voices for Alabama’s Children and stakeholders throughout Alabama to promote high-quality, voluntary pre-k as a top priority. Over the next several months, Allison will be working with advocates, business leaders, educators and policy makers across Alabama to develop and build support for an ambitious statewide plan to expand state-funded pre-k through a diverse delivery system. Prior to joining ASRA, Ms. de la Torre served as state policy associate for Pre-K Now, a national campaign of the Pew Center on the States.
