How A+ Works

A+ Education Partnership works to create great schools for every child in Alabama. With one foot in the statehouse and one foot in the schoolhouse, we work to improve outcomes for Alabama students by working with elected and appointed officials to promote policies that improve public education. Our two programs,  A+ College Ready and the A+ Best Practices Center, build the capacity of teachers and school leaders.

All of our work, from pre-K through high school, is focused on one goal: ensuring EVERY Alabama student graduates prepared for college, career, and life. Learn more about our work:

Advocating for Students with A+ Education Partnership

A+ Education Partnership's policy work is integral to improving academic outcomes for Alabama students. We partner with elected and appointed officials to help shape policies and promote public investments in proven practices that ensure the success of every child in Alabama.

We promote investments in what works, like:

  • Research-based practices such as high-quality state-funded pre-k and early literacy supports
  • High-quality professional development for teachers, principals, superintendents, and other district leaders
  • High academic standards for every Alabama student
  • Innovation in schools to meet the needs of today's students

Raising Expectations with A+ College Ready

A+ College Ready (A+CR) opens the doors to Advanced Placement (AP) and other challenging coursework for all students. This proven program partners with middle and high schools to develop a diverse pipeline of students prepared for rigorous high school course work, including AP. In grades 6-10, we focus on developing the high expectations, skills, and content needed to prepare students for AP and other rigorous coursework in grades 11 and 12 - and for college, career, and life.

How we achieve this:

  • Increasing the number of students engaged in rigorous coursework that promotes access to higher-level academic classes
  • Increasing access to AP for underrepresented students, giving every student the opportunity to reach their potential
  • Training, supporting, and equipping teachers with research-based teaching strategies, deeper content knowledge, and classroom resources in 35 subjects, including math, science, English, social studies, and computer science
  • Empowering administrators to be more effective instructional leaders

Developing Educators with Alabama Best Practices Center

Our Alabama Best Practices Center (ABPC) supports Alabama's teachers, principals, superintendents, and other leaders with ongoing network-based, collaborative professional development that is proven to improve student achievement. We know that the top two indicators of student success are well-supported, well-trained teachers and effective school and district leaders. ABPC helps those who serve our students develop the competence, confidence, and courage to do whatever it takes to improve learning.

The purpose of our work:

  • Develop the next generation of leaders and strengthen the capacity of current leaders
  • Empower educators with the latest knowledge and best practices and encourage them to put these practices in action to improve student achievement
  • Connect superintendents, principals, and teachers across the state to each other to share their experiences and inspire their growth
  • Raise expectations for what is possible by inspiring and informing teachers across the state
