Dr. Stoney Beavers serves as Vice President of the A+ Best Practices Center (ABPC), where he works to expand the reach of evidence-based practices that improve student learning across Alabama. He joined the A+ team in 2020 as Assistant Director and became Vice President in 2022, bringing with him a career built entirely around the belief that every student deserves a great teacher and every educator deserves meaningful support.
Stoney’s path to this work spans the classroom, the district office, and the world. He taught English, Spanish, and drama for ten years at Cleveland High School in Blount County before serving fourteen years in Blount County Schools as Secondary Curriculum Coordinator and Assistant Superintendent. Along the way he earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Alabama, became a National Board Certified Teacher, was named Alabama Secondary Teacher of the Year, and received the Milken Family Foundation Award for Educators. Earlier in his career he trained teachers with the U.S. Peace Corps in Paraguay, rising to Assistant Director of Peace Corps Training.
Stoney completed an MFA in screenwriting from UGA in August 2026 — proof that he believes in lifelong learning as more than a talking point.
