State Superintendent, Dr. Tommy Bice will announce the annual results of Alabama’s AP initiative, implemented through A+ College Ready, which is dramatically increasing the number of Alabama students taking and passing rigorous Advanced Placement* (AP) math and science exams in high schools across the state. Senator Trip Pittman will also be on hand to announce expansion of the program into 21 additional high schools across the state.

WHAT:  Media are invited to participate in a press conference announcing student performance on AP exams within 76 high schools that participated in Alabama’s Advanced Placement Training and Incentive program (APTIP).  The APTIP program, funded by the State Department of Education and with a grant from the National Math and Science Initiative and implemented by A+ College Ready, is an initiative aimed at increasing students’ participation and achievement in rigorous math, science and English AP courses across the state.  The event is scheduled to last approximately 30 minutes.

In addition to the SDE/A+ College Ready statewide event, each program school/District will be hosting their own celebrations. Data on the school’s AP will be shared and the success of students in the  program will be recognized –  AP students in math science and English courses will receive a $100 gift card for each Qualifying Score they received on AP exams taken in May of 2013..

NMSI’s Comprehensive AP program currently operates in 462 schools in 18 states and includes open enrollment in AP math, science and English classes for all students, increased time on task for students through special study sessions, intensive teacher training, support from master teachers and incentives for teachers and students.

NMSI is also nationally recognized as a Common Core State Standards training provider. In 2012, NMSI was selected to work with the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) consortium to lead Common Core State Standards training in 22 states and create the Educator Leader Cadre.
