This summer, a different kind of building is underway, one focused on strengthening minds, classrooms, and communities. Through the E3 Summer Training, social studies educators gather not just to learn, but to construct a stronger future for their students.
Constructing Civic Understanding
According to the National Council for Social Studies, a comprehensive social studies education provides the foundation for an appreciation of democracy, an understanding of the responsibilities and rights that come with participating in a republican form of government, and the knowledge and skills to be informed, responsible, and active global citizens. A solid building needs a strong base, and our classrooms need robust, thoughtful instruction that helps students understand their rights and responsibilities in a democratic society.
Building Together: E3’s Unique Approach
Social studies teachers rarely get to engage in grade-level and discipline-specific professional learning, which is why the E3 Summer Training is so valuable. It brings educators from across the state to build community, share best practices, and deepen their content knowledge. E3 provides this unique opportunity to build community, expand pedagogy, and further explore content.
This year’s training focused on the New Course of Study, equipping teachers with the tools, strategies, and confidence to implement updated standards in meaningful, student-centered ways. Sessions with hands-on activities, collaborative lesson planning, and content-rich discussions mirrored the active learning we aim to bring into our classrooms.
There have been some significant shifts in scope and content. We are excited to explore these changes further and provide lessons. Teachers will leave equipped to take on this new component. Join a room of your fellow teachers to start this journey.
Tools of the Trade: Expanding Pedagogy
In the E3 training room, literacy skills and critical thinking skills converge. Although social studies are not formally assessed, social studies skills support assessment content in other subjects. Focusing on these skills, we empower students not only to succeed on exams, but also in social studies beyond the classroom social studies. Students are prepared to make real-world decisions and engage in active citizenship.
Leave Equipped, Empowered, and Ready to Build up Students.
Whether you’re new to the profession or a veteran educator, E3 will reignite your love of teaching and connect you with a community as passionate about student success as you are. You’ll leave with lesson ideas, teaching strategies, and planning tools.
Join hundreds of educators from across the state this summer and discover why Social Studies teachers report E3 training is the best professional learning they have ever attended.
