The staff of A+ College Ready extends their congratulations to AP Chemistry teacher, Ryan Richards! He is the recipient of the 2014 Fannie Mae Nelson Teacher of Promise Award, which he received during the February meeting of the Alabama Science Teachers Association. The Teacher of Promise award goes to the teacher with less than three years’ experience that has demonstrated outstanding qualities and contributions to science education in Alabama.
“This is great news,” said A+ College Ready president, Mary Boehm. “Mr. Richards truly deserves this recognition, and he serves as a wonderful representative of the high-quality AP teachers we have in Alabama.”
Mr. Richards is the AP and Honors Chemistry teacher at Northview High School in Dothan. He is a graduate of Troy University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Comprehensive General Science Education. He was one of only 18 (out of 455 Troy graduates) that graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors.
The Fannie Mae Nelson Teacher of Promise is awarded each year at the association’s annual conference, and carries with it a $500 cash award for the recipients. Outstanding K-12 science teachers are nominated by the association members each year for this statewide award.
