OGAP Fractional Reasoning Training
June 4, 2018 @ 9:00 am - June 7, 2018 @ 3:00 pm
What is OGAP Fractional Reasoning Training?
The Ongoing Assessment Project (OGAP) is a systematic, intentional, and iterative formative assessment system grounded in the research on how students learn mathematics. The OGAP system is seamlessly integrated into a set of tools, practices, support materials, and in-depth professional development.
OGAP is not a curriculum, but is used on an ongoing basis to enhance the existing math program. Teachers learn how to choose appropriate items from a databank of carefully constructed items, administer them in their classrooms as “exit slips” or quick assessments, and use OGAP learning trajectory frameworks to analyze the underlying student thinking that can guide future instruction to deepen student understanding.
Consistent with the Alabama Course of Study for Mathematics, the OGAP Fraction Framework shows a progression that includes modeling as a means to more generalized reasoning and efficient fractional strategies with the goal to develop understanding of concepts, relationships, and procedural fluency. Ultimately, fluency and understanding will enable students to engage in middle school mathematical topics that assume proficiency with fractions (e.g., proportionality, solving equations with fractional coefficients).
Who should attend?
Math 6, Math 7, Math 8, and Algebra I teachers
Please be aware that this training is not a substitute for the E3 Summer Training and has no bearing on equipment stipend eligibility; however, teachers may choose to attend this training in addition to the E3 Summer Training held at Gardendale High School and/or Hartselle High School.
Please note that although registration is free, Partner Schools and Non A+ College Ready affiliated schools will be invoiced $750 per participant. Partner Schools and Non A+ College Ready affiliated schools will need to send a purchase order to Jenifer Glover, Director of Finance, [email protected], prior to the start of training.
Registered participants who are no longer able to attend should cancel their registration to avoid being subject to a $200.00 no-show fee.
