A+ College Ready, a program of A+ EducationPartnership, holds the unshakeable belief ALL students can achieve at high levels. As such, it opens the door for middle and high school students in Alabama to reach their academic potential through access to Advanced Placement (AP) and other challenging coursework. This proven program partners with middle and high schools to develop a diverse pipeline of students prepared for success in college, career, and life. A+ CollegeReady’s high-quality, content-specific teacher training and rigorous curricula are fully aligned to the Alabama Courses of Study and the College Board’s AP requirements. We support 58 total courses in math, science, English, social studies, computer science, art, and Spanish, comprised of 35 non-AP and 23 AP courses.
Each year of a program school’s three-year grant cycle, A+ College Ready sets ambitious goals for student academic growth and/or achievement. Schools that meet or exceed these goals are recognized as an A+ College Ready School of Excellence, Distinction, or Mary D. Boehm School of Achievement.
In the 2023-24 school year, a record number of schools were recognized for achieving their goals. The Governor and the Alabama State Board of Education recognized these schools at their monthly meeting on November 14, 2024. Following the board meeting, A+ College Ready hosted a luncheon at Wynlakes Country Club in their honor.
A student achievement growth goal is set for each middle school/junior high school. When students are in seventh grade, they sit for the PSAT 8/9, and a baseline score for that cohort of students is established. They sit for the PSAT 8/9 again in the 8th grade, and if the baseline score increases by the goal amount, the middle school/junior high school meets its academic goal. Each high school in the program has an AP qualifying score goal. If students earn the number of qualifying scores that meet or exceed that number, the high school meets its academic goal.
In 2024, A+ College Ready honored two schools with the Mary D. Boehm School of Achievement Award. This award, named after the first president of A+ College Ready, recognizes the accomplishment of meeting/exceeding the academic goal each of the three years in the program. The two schools honored are:
