Kathleen Outlaw, a Biological Science Teacher at Madison County High School, was announced the Secondary Teacher of the Year for Madison County Schools on Tuesday, March 8 at a Teacher and Support Education Professional of the Year program and reception. Kathleen, a twenty-three year veteran teacher, was chosen by a committee from thirteen other applicants.

Ms. Outlaw received a Master of Science in Continuing Education from the University of West Alabama, a Master of Education in Biological Sciences from the University of West Alabama and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Livingston University.

Kathleen has served as an ASIM Level Three Teacher and Trainer, an AP Biology Instructor, a PDK-Secretary, an ASTA High School Director, an NSTA Member, a Statewide Textbook Committee Member, an AMSTI Presenter/Teacher Trainer, an ARI Facilitator, a Beta Club Advisor, a NASA Aerospace Week County Coordinator, a Science Fair Teacher Representative/ISEF Delegate, an Alpha Hudson Genetics Participant, an Alpha Hudson DNA Day Delegate/Advisor, and a New Teacher Mentor;

Mrs. Outlaw is a STI Summer Grant Participant, a Scholars’ Bowl Team Advisor, a State/County Envirothron Coach Runner Up for 2003-2005, a Harry Singer Foundation Essay Winner, a Toyota Tapestry Semi-Finalist, a LIMS Participant, School-To-Work Grant Recipient, an Alabama Power Grant Recipient, a Governor’s Award Recipient, and is listed in Who’s Who Among American High School Teachers.

As result of being named Madison County Schools’ Secondary Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Outlaw will receive $500 cash donation and her application will compete in Alabama’s Regional Teacher of the Year competition.
