As part of the A+ College Ready program, each Advanced Placement student takes an exam representative of the exam they will take in May. Their AP teachers come to the Mock Exam reading event and are trained to read and score their students’ responses just like the actual AP exams are scored at the national AP reading.

Teachers are trained by nationally renowned presenters to score the mock exams using the same rubrics and processes as the national AP reading. During the reading, teachers discover common mistakes and misconceptions of students across the state and share ways to correct these learning deficiencies with the presenters and their peers.

This immersive experience fosters meaningful discussions on effective instructional strategies to address shared challenges. AP Mock Reading events encourage and equip teachers to return to their classrooms to help students become stronger readers, writers, and thinkers.

We welcomed Computer Science Principles, AP Physics 1, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Computer Science A, AP US History, AP Statistics, AP Government and US Politics, AP Macroeconomics, AP Biology, AP Pre-Calculus, AP Physics C, AP Calculus AB/BC, AP World History, AP Psychology and AP Art teachers. Previously, in March, we hosted our AP Spanish, AP English, and AP Literature Readings. Three hundred eighty-one teachers participated in one or more of these sessions to better serve students across Alabama.

Teachers consistently say this is the most valuable professional development they have ever experienced, and students report that this experience better prepares them for their AP exam(s). We want to especially thank representatives from the College Board who attended our AP Psychology Mock Reading! Their expertise helped us equip our teachers with top-tier professional development, especially on the new AP Psychology exam rubrics.

“We are so thankful for the opportunity to observe the A+ College Ready AP Psychology Mock Reading! For this year’s AP Psychology Exam, we are debuting two new questions that require students to engage with summarized primary sources to demonstrate skills learned in the course. The A+ College Ready AP Psychology Mock Reading allowed our Reading leadership to see the new scoring guidelines in action and answer questions from teachers about how to apply them to authentic student responses reliably and validly. Our Chief Reader and Assistant Chief Reader were able to learn which parts of the guidelines need more clarity and what types of training experiences Readers may need to score student responses successfully. The teachers helped our team feel more prepared and confident going into the June AP Psychology Reading”, Amy Fineburg, Director, AP Psychology Curriculum and Assessment with College Board.
