The state of Alabama and A+ College Ready continue to make strides in computer science education, ensuring preparation for the digital age. A+ College leads efforts in supporting Alabama public schools with essential computer science resources. Through our initiatives all educators and students across the state have access to high-quality training, curriculum, and mentoring.
Computer science is becoming a graduation requirement starting in the 2031-2032 school year, our programs are paving the way for this transition. For the last several years, computer science education in Alabama received its own dedicated funding through a separate contract. This move solidifies ongoing efforts to expand access and strengthen the foundation of computer science in every classroom.
Comprehensive Programs from A+ College Ready supporting and training include:
Sponsored Professional Development where we work with K-12 educators to equip them to teach computer science, and to ensure schools meet the legislative requirement to offer computer science in all K – 12 classrooms.
Teacher mentoring sessions for all computer science courses with a minimum of twice per month, ensuring ongoing support and professional development.
Student Study Sessions for our program schools, and on-demand study sessions accessible to students across the entire state.
Our Fall Computer Science Conference and Workshop celebrated a record-breaking attendance with 200 participants this year. This milestone reflects the growing interest and commitment among educators to advance computer science education in their schools. We are proud to announce that our Praxis Prep program for computer science teacher certification is currently in its 11th cohort, with the largest participation to date—95 teachers. As we look ahead, Cohort 12 began this January, continuing our mission to equip educators with the skills and knowledge they need to teach computer science effectively.
A+ College Ready is recognized as a College Board endorsed provider for training and curriculum for AP Computer Science Principles. We are currently updating our AP Computer Science A Course to align with the new course and exam description. Our goal is to obtain endorsed provider status for AP Computer Science A as well. Endorsed Provider status expands our reach to an international audience. These updates reflect our ongoing commitment to elevating computer science education in Alabama, ensuring that both educators and students are prepared to meet the demands of the future. Stay tuned for more exciting developments!
