After just one year in the A+ College Ready program, 23 schools had a dramatic 106% increase in passing AP math, science and English scores – 16 times the national average of 6.6 percent.* These results propelled Alabama to have the highest increase in passing math, science, and English scores in the country.
In a report released by the College Board, which administers AP tests nationally, Alabama also showed the greatest percentage increase in the number of students scoring a passing grade on AP tests overall. In addition, the state experienced major improvements in the total number of students taking AP tests as well as minority student participation and performance on AP tests.
During an event to announce the results at the State Capitol, Governor Riley said the success is directly attributable to the state’s partnership with the A + College Ready program and commitment to funding the ACCESS Distance Learning initiative in Alabama schools.
Three celebration events were held at A + College Ready program schools to announce the results of the 23 schools participating in the Advanced Placement Training and Incentive Program. Huntsville and Madison County results were announced on Sept. 28 at Buckhorn High School. Birmingham City and Jefferson County results were announced on Sept. 29 at Ramsay High School and results from Montgomery Public Schools were announced at LAMP High School.
