A+ College Ready AP Summer Intensives

June 15, 2020 @ 8:00 am - June 18, 2020 @ 3:30 pm

(This training is virtual but was formerly scheduled to be held at Thompson High School)

AP MACRO & APGOPO

The AP Summer Intensive for AP Macro and APGOPO is designed to allow teachers who wish to teach a combined APGOPO and AP Macro course to the same group of students throughout the school year. The materials are designed to allow teachers to teach a few weeks of one course and a few weeks of another course on an alternating basis for an entire year. Teachers are encouraged to teach course material for each course for approximately four weeks during a nine week grading period. An experienced AP Macroeconomics teacher and an experienced APGOPO teacher will lead this training. They will share how they collaboratively taught these two classes for five years with great success. Instruction in course content will be provided for each course so that teachers are prepared to teach these two courses in the 2020-2021 school year. If a teacher is new to AP Macro, an additional two day training in October is strongly recommended. Topics that will need to be taught in the second semester of the course will be presented at the fall training. The cost to attend this training is $850.

AP COMPUTER SCIENCE
A+ College Ready
is proud to partner with the Alabama State Department of Education to make high-quality computer science training available for Alabama public school teachers:

AP Computer Science Principles (APCSP):  This 4-day training course is designed for first year APCSP teachers, possibly with no computer science background.  Participants will learn how to apply the Code.org-based curriculum in the classroom and how to fulfill the College Board requirements of the course. This training will be offered as Session 2 during the week of June 16-19, and Session 6 during the week of July 21-24 as well as the satellite training sites.

AP Computer Science A (APCSA):  This 4-day training course is designed for first year APCSA teachers.  Teachers without a strong computer science background should have successfully taught APCSP for several years before teaching APCSA.  The A+ College Ready APCSA course uses an engaging, project-based curriculum that follows the story of a group of students traveling around the world solving big problems using computing.  Pre-work is required to learn the basics of Java programming. Contact the A+ College Ready Computer Science Content Director for AP, Carol Yarbrough ([email protected]) if interested in this opportunity. This training will be offered virtually as Session 2 during the week of June 16-19.

Additionally, A+ College Ready is offering AP CS Principles Updates training for experienced APCSP teachers.

AP Computer Science Principles Updates:  This 4-day training is designed for APCSP teachers who have taught the course prior to the 2020-21 school year.  Teachers will learn about the new, more challenging, Create Performance Task, the new curricular requirement replacing the Explore Performance Task and the changes to the Course Exam and Description.  This is must-do training for existing APCSP teachers as the course and exam have changed dramatically.

Attendance at this training will meet a program/pipeline school teacher’s requirement for training and make him/her eligible for a 2020-21 Letter of Agreement (LOA). In addition, attendance at the ENTIRE AP Computer Science Principles or AP Computer Science A training will allow the trained teacher to earn a course-specific permit that meets Alabama certification requirements for the specified computer science course.

Teachers who attend these training events will receive:

– Specialized training designed by expert educators for teachers of any level.
– Full access to rigorous classroom-ready lessons.
– Ongoing support from expert educators.
