Wilmer Elementary is striving to incorporate and immerse our students in digital literacy. Digital literacy is the ability to use information and communication technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information, requiring both cognitive and technical skills. Digital literacy has been a great addition to our school. It provides many opportunities for students to collaborate, engage, create, and use critical thinking skills. We have grown exponentially and we are continuing to progress in our efforts to make all students prepared for our technology filled world. Our goal is to have every classroom implementing digital literacy on a regular basis. We are striving to move towards student driven instruction paired with maximum student engagement.
Our digital literacy team is working on their second year of attending professional development and implementing these practices in their classroom. The team is on their first year of spreading digital literacy to the teachers in our school. Many teachers have embraced the new activities and ideas and are creating engaging lessons and a love of learning in their classrooms.
Some examples of digital literacy in our school are: Kahoot.it quizzes, Plickers quizzes, imovie, paper slide videos, Morfo Booth, green screen apps, SOS Strategies, and Discovery Education.
