In June 2006, the City of Saraland voted to break away from the Mobile County Public School System and form its own school system.  The school district was established in the summer of 2008.  In August 2013, the construction of the new Saraland Elementary was finalized, more than doubling the square footage (40,000 to 105,000).  In 2014, an additional wing (D-hall) was added to compensate for student growth.  Approximately 150 new students enroll annually at Saraland City Schools.  The citizens of Saraland are extremely proud of their new school system and support all its efforts.  Community members serve in various roles and capacities, which result in a collaborative effort to provide a world-class education for the students in Saraland.

The overall goals of Saraland City Schools are to meet the needs of all students and to challenge them with a rigorous curriculum to ensure they are prepared for the next grade level and are college and career ready.  To achieve this goal, the system establishes high expectations for its students, teachers, local school administrators, and central office staff through the implementation of an effective and comprehensive curriculum.  Teachers use research-based practices to ensure instructional strategies are current, meaningful, and rigorous.

Saraland Elementary School serves approximately 900 students in grades 2-5. SES serves a student population of 76% White, 17% African-American, 1% Hispanic, 2% Asian, and 4% other and multi-race. Additionally, 50% of the student population receive free/reduced lunch.

Saraland Elementary recently transitioned from being a Pre-K through 4th grade campus into a 2nd through 5th grade campus.  With the opening of the Saraland Early Education Center, we were able to transition 5th grade back to the elementary setting.  Saraland incorporates Alabama Math Science Technology Initiative (AMSTI) strategies into daily instruction.  Saraland Elementary was recently selected as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School for exemplary high performance.
