Pelham Oaks Elementary Instructional Round

Registration: 8:15 a.m.
Begin: 8:30 a.m.
End: 2:00 p.m.

Lunch will be served.

Pelham City School System was established in 2014. The system consisted of one PreK-2 school, one 3-5 school, a middle school, and high school at its initiation. In 2016 the two elementary schools were redesigned to establish two PreK-5 schools: Pelham Oaks and Pelham Ridge Elementary Schools.

Pelham Oaks Elementary is a Leader in Me and Reading Initiative School. We received the National “Let’s Move School” Award for 2015-2017. We currently serve approximately 620 students in grades PreK-5. Our student population is made up of 16% African American, 46% Caucasian, 29% Hispanic, and 9% other.  44% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. We have three ESL Teachers who support 26% of our students who are learning English as a second language. Niche ranks our school system 16th out of the 136 districts in the state of Alabama.

All Students in grades 3-5 have access to a Chromebook in their classroom. Kindergarten-2nd grade classes have iPads and several desktops for student use. Other technology resources are provided through our computer lab and media center.

In order to continue our focus on student engagement we have embraced the use of learning targets, as described in Ron Berger’s book, Leaders of Their Own Learning. Therefore, our problem of practice addresses the relevant use of daily learning targets. We believe that the incorporation of learning targets will equip students with a greater understanding of their learning purpose.

Through the instructional round process and participation of educators from around our state we hope to gain a deeper understanding of our school’s current proficiency level in the use of learning targets. Information gained from our instructional round will enable us to implement next steps that will further support students’ learning.

Participants should park in the front of the building and sign-in through the main office.
