Laying the Foundation and SSC3 Training – Hewitt Trussville High School

June 26, 2017 @ 8:30 am - June 29, 2017 @ 3:30 pm

NMSI’s Laying the Foundation Program for teachers of grades 6-10, provides math, science, and English teachers with the best content-based, pedagogy-driven, teacher-to-teacher training.  Training is held in the proper environment for the subject. We help educators with teaching strategies and content knowledge that increase rigor in the classroom and are aligned with state standards. Our training is more than just another professional development session; it’s an event that offers educators a variety of opportunities to strengthen their knowledge and practice. Teachers who attend our training events receive:

Specialized, hands-on and engaging teacher training designed by expert educators for teachers of any level
Rigorous, online classroom-ready lessons
Vertical alignment across grade levels
Ongoing support from expert teachers
A focus on STEM education

The SSC3 training consists of 4 days of hands-on and interactive in which teachers are provided best practices and skill-based teaching strategies that focus on the 3 critical aspects of any social studies course:

  • Content Acquisition Skills – strategies that focus on reading and comprehending primary and secondary resources, charts, graphs, tables, maps and technological resources
  • Content Application Skills – strategies that focus on applying the content in multiple ways for multiple purposes including comparison, differentiation, evaluation, synthesis, application, inferences, contextualization, classifying, and change over time
  • Content Exposition Skills – strategies that focus on student expository work including narrative and persuasive writing

Please note that although all tickets are listed as “free,” Partner Schools and Non A+ College Ready affiliated schools will be invoiced $750 per participant. Partner Schools and Non A+ College Ready affiliated schools will need to send a purchase order to Amber Haywood, A+ College Ready’s Training and Communications Director, [email protected] prior to training.

We strongly encourage all participants who received training prior to 2015 to attend year 1 training. The curriculum has been redesigned to be course specific.
