Results of the College Readiness and Advanced Placement Programs in Alabama

Governor Robert Bentley and State Superintendent Michael Sentance will announce the annual results of Alabama’s College Readiness and Advanced Placement initiative, implemented in partnership with A+ College Ready, which is dramatically increasing the number of Alabama students prepared for college evidenced by success on rigorous AP exams taken in high school.

WHAT:  Media are invited to participate in a news conference announcing student performance on AP exams for 132 high schools that participated in Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE)/ A+ College Ready College Readiness and Advanced Placement Program. The program is designed to increase the number of students in Alabama who are college-ready and are taking math, science, English and social studies Advanced Placement (AP) courses, earning qualifying scores on AP exams, and ultimately attending and succeeding in college.

In 2016-17, The ALSDE/A+ College Ready AP Initiative will support 161 schools in 76 districts. The program elements include support for AP math, science, English, social studies, and computer science teachers and students, including increased time on task for students, intensive teacher training, support from master teachers and incentives for teachers and students. This college-readiness program serves and supports teachers and students in grades 6-10 with 21 rigorous core courses aligned with Alabama’s College and Career Ready Standards.
