Professional Pathways Forum (MEGA Conference 2017)

A+ Education Partnership and the David Mathews Center for Civic Life are collaborating to host a forum and training session during the Alabama State Dept. of Education’s MEGA Conference. The session’s goals are to;

Spark an important and fruitful conversation regarding Professional Pathways for teachers in Alabama,
Provide practical training to improve participants’ ability to facilitate a forum discussion in their own districts and schools, and
Curate vital feeback from participants to share at the state-level with education leaders and policy makers.

Cristin Foster Brawner, executive director for the Mathews Center, will facilitate this important discussion and will provide valuable materials that can be used by participants to expand this disucssion among their peers. Cristin coordinates Mathews Center signature programming, moderates deliberative community forums across Alabama, and collaborates with K – 16 schools and community partners to facilitate active civic learning for young Alabamians.

Suzanne Culbreth is the keynote speaker to help lauch this conversation. Suzanne is a master teacher with UAB Teach, is a National Board Certified Teacher, and was named the 2012-13 Alabama Teacher of the Year. She was also awarded the 2011 Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching, representing Alabama nationally in Washington DC. In 1999, she was recognized as a Milken Educator for her achievements in the classroom and future promise to the profession. Suzanne was involved with the pioneering efforts to develop the “Professional Pathways” initiative in Alabama, and will share its history, obstacles and hopes for its revival.
