Orientation about the Networks of the Alabama Best Practices Center

June 27, 2017 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Please join us on Tuesday, June 27 at the Andalusia School Board office for a brief orientation about the Networks of the Alabama Best Practices Center. (The Andalusia School Board address is 101 C.C. Baker Avenue).
The meeting will begin at 11:00 a.m. and conclude at 1:00. Lunch will be provided.
The meeting will include a brief overview of the networks and their purpose. Additionally, participants from each network will be available to respond to any questions that you might have.
 What are the Networks?
The Alabama Best Practices Center facilitates three networks: The Key Leaders Network (for district and school leaders), the Powerful Conversations Network (for school teams), and the Instructional Partners Network (school-based instructional coaches).
 How Do the Networks Work?
The attached one-page overview explains the purpose and focus of each of the networks. One of the key features of each of the network is “lateral learning.” That is, the professional development design intentionally connects participants with each other so they can share best practice, ask questions, and brainstorm good ideas.
Annually, a book is selected as a key focal point for the networks. Rather than a chapter-by-chapter book study, the networks dip into parts of the book and then discuss ways the best practice and/or ideas can work for them. The emphasis is on  using what is learned back in your school and district.
Active engagement is also a key factor of the networks. The facilitators use backward design to ensure that the professional development is clear, relevant, and active. Participants learn together using appropriate protocols and proven adult learning strategies.
How Often Do the Networks Meet?
The Networks meet four times per year. They are organized regionally. For example, the Key Leaders Network South meets in Montgomery three times and in a location south of Montgomery once.
The Powerful Conversations Network meets three times per year, with two of the meetings being in Montgomery and one in in the Wiregrass. Participants are also invited to participate in an Instructional Round, offered in 15 or so schools across the state.
The Instructional Partners Network differentiates its support. New members of the network participate in two two-day retreats (one in the fall and one in the winter). Principals (or assistant principals) accompany their instructional coach/partner to the retreats. Returning IPN members can choose between a series of institutes that are offered.
