We will use five articles from the October 2016 issue of Educational Leadership, which is dedicated to lesson design.

The issue can be purchased from the ASCD website here. Look for the box titled “Buy” (next to the contact box). The issue costs $8.95.

If you (or they) are a member of ASCD, you can copy and share the articles with your teams. The articles we will be using:

            • “Every Lesson Needs a Storyline,” by Ermeling & Graff-Ermeling (pp. 23-26)
             • “How to Partner with Our Curriculum,” by Remillard (pp. 34-38)
            • “Pursuing the Depths of Knowledge,” by Boyles (pp. 46-50)
             • “Starting Strong” by Curran (pp. 65-69)
              • “The Promise of Collaboration,” by Baumi (pp. 58-62)
They can join ASCD. Basic online membership is only $39 per year (and provides access to current and back issues of Educational Leadership) and basic membership, which includes receiving a hard copy of Educational Leadership, is $59.
 This issue is so useful that it would be a good edition to every school professional library. Please communicate this information to your participating schools. They will need to bring the articles with them to the retreat (As a reminder, we did not ask IPN teams to purchase any books this year, so we feel this is a reasonable request, particularly in light of the value of the issue).

Dress Code:
Be comfortable. Casual clothing is fine. You may want to bring a light jacket for the community center.
